GoFastCampers is today announcing the release of the first bed cap engineered to custom fit the all-new 2024 Toyota Tacoma. The GFC Platform Topper comes in sizes tailored to both five- and six-foot bed lengths, and will fit any Tacoma trim level, including TRD Pro and Trailhunter. Priced at $3,995, the GFC Platform Topper for the 2024 Tacoma is available for order beginning today.
GFC also makes the lightest, strongest, most affordable camper for the new Tacoma.
Featuring a dynamic roof load capacity of up to 800 pounds, the Platform Topper allows owners to carry both long loads on its crossbars, and securely store anything else inside the Tacoma’s truck bed. The Topper doubles the volume of secure storage available on the Tacoma, while facilitating access to all areas of the bed through full-length lift panels on both sides and the rear.
Closed, those locking panels seal on rubber gaskets to prevent weather and dust intrusion. Open, they provide shelter from sun and precipitation, transforming into something GFC calls “Cabana Mode.”
The Topper’s roof is made from a translucent honeycomb composite. This brings light from the sun or even street lamps inside, evenly illuminating the storage area, reflects solar radiation, and provides half an inch of air gap insulation, keeping your cargo cooler in hot weather.
The roof is surrounded by a load halo featuring two rows of T-track that run the entire length of both sides, plus the front and rear. This allows owners to permanently mount accessories like lights, recovery gear, awnings, or tools, and is where the GFC’s proprietary Beef Rack crossbars attach.
Each of those Beef Rack crossbars provides a dynamic load rating of 200 pounds. Fitted with four Beef Racks, the GFC Platform Topper provides the strongest roof rack that will ever be offered for the new Tacoma.
That strength is created by GFC’s unique aluminum space frame construction. All joints in that frame are machined from billet aluminum, which captures forces and distributes them in straight lines through extruded aluminum tubes. That structure is fully triangulated to prevent point loading, and evenly distributes loads around the entire perimeter of the Tacoma’s truck bed. All connections are bolted, rather than welded to prevent stress fractures and to ensure each component remains serviceable even if a part is damaged.
Four billet aluminum mounts connect that space frame to the Tacoma’s bed rails with enough strength that the Topper is able to brace the Tacoma’s bed. That reduces deflection from the truck’s body panels off-road, easing the amount of movement bed contents experience over rough terrain, and makes handling more stable.
Even if you’re not using your new Tacoma to shred the gnar, that strength will help guarantee your bed cap holds up to the knocks and scrapes of city driving, or the destructive vibrations caused by driving over washboarded dirt roads.
And it’s not just that strength that means the GFC Platform Topper is built to last. All its extruded parts are finished with an architectural grade black anodizing that won’t turn purple with longterm sun exposure. The billet aluminum components are clear anodized to prevent furring. Steel bolts are coated in zinc oxide to inhibit galvanic corrosion. And the panels are finished in a texted powder coat that resists scratches. The composite roof material has been tested for UV exposure in a procedure that simulates two decades of constant exposure at the sunniest place in North America.
“The Platform Topper is a uniquely capable product that transforms your new Tacoma into a rolling multitool,” explains GFC Founder and CEO Graeme MacPherson. “Whether on a job site, hardware store run, or in the backcountry, it allows you carry more, adds practicality, and won’t let you down.”
All GFC Platform Toppers are custom-designed to perfectly fit the exact bed dimensions of each year, make, model and trim of pickup truck they’re compatible with. This creates a stronger, lighter solution that also maximizes interior space. This was particularly challenging on the new Tacoma, which features a prominent wing on the rear of its cab. GFC is uniquely able to solve for this by wrapping the cab-side panel around that wing, a solution that maximizes interior volume and enhances the integrated look of the truck-cap combination.
All the Topper’s billet aluminum parts are machined using automation tools of GFC’s own invention. These free workers from hazardous, repetitive tasks, and allow them to focus their efforts on work where humans add real value. The extreme efficiency achieved by that human-robot collaboration amplifies each worker’s output, allowing GFC to pay its employees the highest starting wages of any manufacturer in Montana. Careers at GFC start at $57,200, with full benefits, and all jobs at GFC are full time. All GFC products are made in Montana, using materials primarily sourced in the United States.
Deliveries of the new Tacoma began early this year. Many deposit holder have yet to receive their trucks. Placing an order today reserves a spot in GFC’s production queue, which operates on a 10 to 12 week lead time. Installations can take place at GFC’s Montana headquarters, or at one of the company’s eight nationwide locations. Not only is GFC the first company to offer a bed cap custom-sized to the new Tacoma, but it’s the only camper maker to guarantee customers an exact day and time for the delivery of their new Topper. GFC offers financing across its product range. Placing an order today ensures you’ll be one of the first new Tacoma drivers with a GFC Platform Topper.
