The Strongest Truck Topper Ever

The Strongest Truck Topper Ever

Capable of supporting up to 800 pounds of dynamic load on its roof, even through the most challenging off-road terrain, the new GFC Platform Topper is the strongest truck topper ever made. And the only one that can instantly turn into a cabana.

How strong is it? Honestly, it was hard to test, since the Topper itself is so much stronger than any truck it could ever be mounted to. In a static situation (please never attempt to replicate this!), our slide rulers told us the aluminum space frame could support over 4,000 pounds of load. But bed rails on pickup trucks just aren’t made that strong. So, we had to weld together a support structure using 500 pounds of steel in order to ensure we were testing our Topper, and not the vehicle’s frame.

But how much stronger is it than a typical topper? Well, we tested that too. The results, seen in this video, speak for themselves. Metal-skinned toppers will perform similarly; we're the only product in the space with an actual load structure.

But what does this mean for you, even if you don’t need to drive around with an F-250 on your roof? A) Please never try that. And B) It means the Topper is going to hold up to any job you ask of it, decade after decade, no matter the weather, no matter the terrain. It won’t matter if you’re driving washboard, catching air, or delivering the mail. The GFC Platform Topper will get the job done, without fail.

Every Topper is custom sized to every truck it fits. At launch, we're supporting the Toyota Tacoma, Jeep Gladiator, and Ford Ranger. Other trucks will soon follow, as demand dictates.

Is it just a Platform Camper with the tent cut off? Kinda. The aluminum space frame, with its pressure-formed aluminum tubes and load-distributing billet aluminum nut plates is essentially the same. Just like the Camper, the triangles in the Topper’s frame distribute loads evenly across the perimeter of your truck’s bed rails. And also like the topper, all frame connections are bolted, eliminating the potential for stress fractures. The Topper also uses the same inch-thick, translucent white honeycomb roof, to achieve the same light transmission inside, and the same insulation from the elements. And that roof is surrounded in the same pressure-formed aluminum T-track load halo, allowing you to mount all manner of lights, awnings, tools, or other accessories. And that load halo supports the same GFC Beef Racks, which here are what’s holding up that F-250. The same lift panels provide the same instant access to your entire truck bed, and create the same type of cabana the Camper does too.

And, like everything else we make, the Topper is made in Montana, by full-time workers earning the highest starting salaries of any manufacturer in the state.

What’s different is that, sans tent, the Topper sits entirely behind the cab of your truck. To aid aerodynamics we kept it low. But, to give you the ability to carry long loads, we made it one inch taller than the cab of any truck its mounted to. Strap a boat, some boards, or anything else you can come up with to the Beef Racks, and it won’t interfere with your cab. Just like the Camper, each Topper is custom sized for each and every truck.

Ditching the tent saves weight, too. Sized for a short bed Tacoma, this thing weighs just 135 pounds. That’s lighter than your typical fiberglass or metal topper, too.

For mid-size trucks, the GFC Platform Topper is priced at $3,995. That’s within a few hundred dollars of one of those fiberglass toppers, and less expensive than a heavier, weaker steel topper.

What’s all that add up to? We’re pretty sure we just rendered all other truck toppers obsolete. Nothing else out there will work as hard, for as long, as easily as the GFC Platform Topper.

Keep your stuff secure, and accessible, without the compromise.

I agree with Larry about the trade in program. Glad to see this finally come to fruition. I know GFC has had this in the works for years. I reached out to them when I was looking for a topper/canopy/shell upgrade for my 2016 Colorado. Too bad this wasn’t around. I think I would have much rather had this than the RLD canopy I currently have. Hope you guys can keep up with demand. Looks good! 👍👍

Looks like a trade in program needs to be developed next. This thing is awesome!

I have a gfc camper n love it .I think the biggest benefit of new topper is crazy loads of lumber on full sized trucks if there was a way to attach it. Awsome stuff keep it up
